# RoonPilot Personal-Use Binary License 1.0 Copyright (c) 2026 Senior Coder. All rights reserved. This license agreement (the **License**) applies to the portions of the RoonPilot firmware, companion firmware, installer, user interface, artwork, documentation and other distribution material authored by or for Senior Coder (the **RoonPilot Software**). It does not replace or restrict the separate licenses that apply to third-party components identified in `THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md` and the accompanying `LICENSES` directory. By activating the RoonPilot Web Installer, installing an update, downloading the separately offered Companion firmware, or using the RoonPilot Software, you accept this License. If you do not accept it, do not install, download or use the RoonPilot Software. ## 1. Limited permission Subject to continued compliance with this License, Senior Coder grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, royalty-free license to: 1. install an official, unmodified RoonPilot firmware image through the installer provided or expressly approved by Senior Coder on a supported Waveshare ESP32-S3-Knob-Touch-LCD-1.8 device; 2. run that unmodified firmware on the supported device solely for your own private, noncommercial use; 3. configure the firmware through its documented display and web interfaces; 4. install official, unmodified updates through RoonPilot's documented online update function; and 5. download, retain one reasonable installation or backup copy of, and install the official, unmodified RoonPilot Companion firmware solely on the companion ESP32 fitted to the same supported device. No ownership interest is transferred. Every right not expressly granted is reserved by Senior Coder. ## 2. Prohibited conduct Except where and only to the extent that mandatory applicable law expressly permits an act despite this restriction, you must not, and must not enable or assist another person or entity to: 1. copy, capture, extract, save or obtain a standalone RoonPilot primary firmware image, except for transient copies created automatically by the authorized Web Installer as technically necessary for installation; 2. publish, upload, mirror, host, transmit, share, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, transfer or otherwise redistribute any RoonPilot Software, firmware image or substantial part of it; 3. modify, patch, translate, adapt, alter, unlock or create a derivative work from the RoonPilot Software, including binary patches and modified firmware images; 4. reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, decode, decrypt, unpack, dump, inspect or otherwise analyse the RoonPilot Software for the purpose of recovering source code, implementation details, data structures, protocols, algorithms or internal design; 5. use information, implementation details or extracted material obtained from the RoonPilot Software to develop, improve, produce, market or operate another firmware, product, service or commercial offering; 6. remove, alter or conceal copyright, license, attribution, signature, integrity or provenance information; 7. bypass the authorized installer, update-signature checks, access controls or other technical protection measures; or 8. use the RoonPilot Software for any commercial, professional, revenue- generating, product-development, evaluation-for-procurement or competitive analysis purpose without a separate written agreement signed by Senior Coder. The restriction on modification does not prohibit normal configuration through documented settings, nor does it prohibit installation of an official, unmodified update. ## 3. Mandatory statutory rights Nothing in this License excludes a right that cannot lawfully be excluded by contract. In particular, where applicable law implements Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC, this License does not prevent: - a backup copy that is necessary for the licensed use; - observation, study or testing performed while carrying out an authorized act of loading, displaying, running, transmitting or storing the program; or - decompilation confined to the portions and conditions strictly necessary to achieve interoperability of an independently created program when the required information was not otherwise readily available. Information obtained under a mandatory interoperability exception may be used only for that lawful interoperability purpose. It must not be used to create, produce or market a program substantially similar in expression to RoonPilot, or disclosed beyond what that exception permits. ## 4. Third-party software RoonPilot contains independently licensed third-party components. Those components remain governed by their own license terms. Rights granted by an applicable third-party license are not reduced by this License. This License applies only to RoonPilot-authored code, assets, integration, selection, arrangement and distribution material. The corresponding copyright notices and license texts are available with the installer and in `THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md` and `LICENSES`. ## 5. Source code and confidential implementation This License does not grant access to source code, build files, signing keys, debug symbols, maps or other development material. Such material is confidential and is not part of the licensed distribution. Possession or disclosure of it does not grant any license or permission to use it. ## 6. Updates and signatures Senior Coder may provide, change or discontinue updates at any time. Firmware signatures establish authenticity and integrity; they do not transfer any copyright or grant permission beyond this License. You must not attempt to sign or present another image as an official RoonPilot release. ## 7. Termination This License terminates automatically when you breach any of its terms. Upon termination you must stop using the RoonPilot Software and remove every copy in your possession or control, except to the extent retention is required by law. Sections protecting ownership, confidential implementation, limitations of liability and enforcement survive termination. ## 8. Disclaimer To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the RoonPilot Software is provided **as is** and **as available**, without warranties or conditions of any kind. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected. ## 9. Limitation of liability To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Senior Coder is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, loss of data, loss of use, loss of revenue or damage resulting from installation or use of the RoonPilot Software. Nothing in this License limits liability where such limitation is prohibited by mandatory law. ## 10. General terms If a provision is unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum lawful extent and the remaining provisions remain effective. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. This License is the complete agreement concerning the RoonPilot-authored software supplied under it. Any commercial use, redistribution, modification or source-code access requires a separate written agreement signed by Senior Coder. This License is governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules and conflict-of-law rules that cannot lawfully be excluded.
